BIRDS OF THE GAMBIA

9th – 15th February 2020

Join me on a birding tour in The Gambia, West Africa – a birding paradise with over 500 species recorded.

I look forward to being your personal guide throughout this tropical ornithological journey.

We will be visiting various habitats along the coast including Abuko Nature Reserve where Giant Kingfisher, Lizard Buzzard Green and Violet Turacos can be found. This is also a very good area for raptors including African White-Backed Vulture, Hooded Vulture, Osprey, Fish Eagle.  Cape Point is excellent for Terns and Waders. Kotu Stream – Pied Kingfisher, Palmnut Vulture and Fajara Golf Course – Black Headed plover, Little Bee Eater. Kartong Bird Observatory –  Goliath Heron, Blue – Cheeked Bee Eaters, Africa Spoonbills. Marakissa Forest lies close the border with neighbouring Senegal. Its varied habitats are great places for birds, with African Green Pigeon, Greater Honeyguide, Grey-headed Bush Shrike, Klaas’s Cuckoo and Northern Puffback among species regularly seen here.

Accommodation

Seven nights at the coast, staying at the Senegambia Hotel, one of the Gambia’s most popular tourist hotels. Set in 20 acres of tropical gardens, the beach and swimming pool make it an excellent place to relax during the heat of the day. All rooms are air-conditioned and en suite.
